Craig Warwick The Artist

One of the delights of the Christie's and Coy's Historic Festivals at Silverstone were the superb programme covers that featured the work of Craig Warwick. His montages of great racing champions and their cars demonstrated the elusive combination of draughtsmanship and distillation of his subject's characters that has long been the hallmark of any Craig Warwick canvas.  For many, these paintings, in a blend of watercolour, gouache and oil, were the perfect introduction to an artist of phenomenal range, whose work is highly sought after on both sides of the Atlantic.  Montages of drivers, personalities and cars have long been a particular Warwick strength, demonstrating a coherence that few others manage to achieve.

Lancashire-born, Craig Warwick was fascinated by motor sport from an early age; particularly the pairing of drivers and their cars. He studied Fine Art and Graphic Design at the Royal Academy West of England College of Art in Bristol, where his intuitive and sensitive style was developed.

The range of Craig Warwick's work is exceptionally wide. His most recent work, where the classic styling of an Alfa Romeo, Bugatti or Ferrari is complemented by wistfully beautiful models, represents a new and successful departure for this unique artist.

Melding the aesthetics of the Gurney Eagle Weslake of 1967 with it's driver/constructor won Craig the 2002 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Award at the Automotive Fine Arts Society of America (AFAS) exhibition in Florida, USA.

His many commissions have included Ferrari UK, for whom he painted a montage of 40 Years of Maranello Concessionaires; Maserati UK for the 75th, anniversary of the marque; and ITV to celebrate the retirement of commentator Murray Walker.

Other commissions have been accepted from Ferrari UK, who in 2000 "Celebrated 40 Years of Maranello Concessionaires" and commissioned Craig Warwick to paint a magnificent original featuring "The Colonel’s Ferraris” which formed the main feature of the Exhibition of Art at "The Air Gallery”, London W1 in November 2000.

In 2001, Maserati UK commissioned Craig to paint two montages celebrating "75 Years of Maserati". The Maserati racing history has been published by Planners International Events, on behalf of Maserati UK, as a limited edition print celebrating the racing history of Maserati. The Maserati road history has been published, on behalf of Maserati UK, as a superb poster.
